Anticompetitive behavior in the health care market place is subject to the antitrust provisions of the Sherman Act just like any other business. Identify a case that has applied the act to a health care business issue and then provide a detailed analysis of the facts of the case and describe the final result of the case. Following the Guidelines for Papers provided below, students should synthesize information from lectures, readings and class discussion, conduct original research, and produce a written paper. a. Guidelines for Papers At a threshold level, your paper must: • Be five (5) double-spaced pages of TEXT excluding cover page and reference list (margins should be set at one (1) inch); • respond to one (1) of eight (8) topics attached to this order; and • Be prepared in accordance with publication rules found in Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Note: The UMUC Library has great resources on APA citation formats. You can find a tutorial at http://www.umuc.edu/library/citationguides.html#apa On a more general basis, each student paper should: • include well developed and multifaceted facts, critical analysis and conclusions; • include research and evidentiary support that: (1) is appropriate to the topic; (2) supports the analysis; (3) assists the conclusion(s); and (4) provides the reader with multiple sources of additional information and support relevant to the subject area; and • be concise, logically organized and free from grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors. b. Conducting Research for Your Paper Students should conduct original on-line research in order to complete the requirements for each paper. Students are encouraged to utilize the extensive resources of the UMUC Library. Students should not cite the Pozgar textbook or the Shi and Singh textbook, any other textbook from a UMUC course, or the lectures as sources. At a minimum, each paper should include a reference list of at least 3 references. Original on-line research and other sources should form the primary bases of support for your paper. In general, students should utilize scholarly research as primary support for their papers. Web and Internet information should rarely be used and cited in the paper reference list. However, where government reports or information are available on the web students should feel free to use those resources with proper attribution. Note: If you are going to cite resources from the web, you must download and save copies of the resource. The professor may request that you provide copies of the web research. You must be able to produce copies to the instructor upon request in order to receive full credit for your paper. Additionally, please refer tohttp://www.umuc.edu/library/guides/evaluate.html for a discussion of how to evaluate and use web resources.
