Ideally, the case will be one with which you were personally involved, and one that posed a challenge for you. Summarise the primary mental health concern(s), identifying specific conditions or criteria, including relevant chronology. 2. Identify and discuss the area of predisposing risk that contributed to vulnerability to harm that you consider most relevant to the case you have chosen, focusing attention on evidence based risk assessment. Use academic sources to support your discussion. 3. Identify and discuss a specific aspect of the case that relates to implications of the mental health condition or substance usage for the individual or family involved, as well as treatment. Suggestions are provided below. 4. Using knowledge gained from your readings, identify and discuss how you would apply evidence based concepts to working with the individual if you could do so. or contribute to implications of, alterations to or progressions in your practice approach in a similar case in the future. Provide evidence of critical analysis. A systematic awareness of the major theories used to explain the occurrence of mental health or substance use difficulties, 2. A comprehensive understanding and critical awareness of different methods of intervention with individuals, families and carers where mental health and/or substance use problems are a concern, 3. A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of key legislation and policy relating to mental health and substance use and the implications for practice, 4. A critical awareness of the oppression, discrimination and stigma experienced by people affected by mental health and substance use, and the implications for social workers’ professional values and practice. Students are expected to be able to demonstrate an awareness of anti- oppressive practice concerns linked with mental health and substance misuse, especially among people who are socially vulnerable Students must adhere to the assignment guidelines in the student handbook.
