All units of a hospital need both leaders and managers to operate effectively. For example, the mangers of a unit are the administrators such as the nurse director and assistant directors as well as the nurse educators. They provide the materials to get the job done and provide high-quality care to the patients. The charge nurses of the unit are the leaders. They work closely with the the managers to relay information or goals to the staff to care for patients. Within the staff of the unit, there may be more leaders who help guide other nurses or staff to achieving goals.
